John Waka brings 13 years of microscopy experience to leadership team

Salt Lake City, UT – Vutara, Inc., provider of the world’s most advanced super-resolution microscope for cellular research, is pleased to announce the hiring of John Waka to the position of Vice President of Sales.   Waka joins the team from Leica Microsystems, where he garnered Top Salesperson of the Year awards in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

“Given the tremendous success John has had in the industry, we feel extremely fortunate to have him on board,” said Stan Kanarowski, CEO of Vutara. “John’s decision to join Vutara is an indicator of the growing excitement within the space around super-resolution microscopy and its potential to change the research landscape.”

Before serving as a Confocal Applications Specialist at Leica Microsystems, Waka ran the confocal system for the department of Cell Biology and Biological Sciences at City College, New York.  Prior to his time there, he worked as a Digital Imaging Research Technician at the Molecular Cytology Core Facility of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.  Waka received his Bachelor’s of Chemical Biology with Honors from Stevens Institute of Technology and studied medicine for 3 years at SUNY Downstate.

“Because it represents exploration and discovery, microscopy has always been a love of mine,” says the newly hired Waka.  “The more I learned about the Vutara super-resolution technology, the more excited I became.  I really think these microscopes represent a major evolution in scientific instrumentation.”

Drawing upon his background on both the research and sales sides, Waka will ensure that the sales, applications and support teams are truly centered on the needs and goals of the nanoscopist.
